Ultrasound for Surgeons: The Basic Course
The American College of Surgeons and the National Ultrasound Faculty have developed "Ultrasound for Surgeons: The Basic Course" for surgeons and surgical residents on CD-ROM.
The objective of the course is to provide the practicing surgeon and surgical resident with a basic core of education and training in ultrasound imaging as a foundation for specific clinical applications.
Upon successfully completing this CD-ROM a surgeon should be able to:
- Describe the American College of Surgeons Educational program in Ultrasound
- Describe Ultrasound Physics in reference to clinical ultrasound
- Describe the basic components of an ultrasound machine
- Describe the essential aspects of proper ultrasound scanning techniques
- Describe the safety issues associated with clinical ultrasound
- Provide an overview of the use of ultrasound in the following clinical areas: breast, neck, vascular, acute evaluation, intra operative, laparoscopic, endoluminal, and head and neck
- Discuss strategies to introduce ultrasound into surgical practice.

The American College of Surgeons designates this educational activity for a maximum of four (4) Category 1 credits toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
The American Medical Association has determined that physicians not licensed in the United States who participate in this CME activity are also eligible for AMA PRA category 1 credit.
