National Ultrasound FacultyThe American College of Surgeons (ACS) has developed an ultrasound educational program for surgeons and surgical residents. The intent of this program is to provide surgeons and surgical residents with a basic understanding of clinical ultrasound and knowledge of advanced clinical applications tailored to suit the surgeons' type of clinical practice. The program has been developed by the College with the help of the Committee on Emerging Surgical Technologies and Education (CESTE), as well as a group of surgeons with knowledge and experience in the clinical use of ultrasound. A voluntary verification process for surgeons performing ultrasound has been created and is intended to ensure that surgeons who use ultrasound are qualified and that the ultrasound facilities and equipment they use are appropriate for the medical application and meet and maintain quality standards. For further information about the program see the linked Ultrasound bluebook.
